McCain didn't deserve to lose this way.
Don't get me wrong; I'm happy for President-Elect Barack Obama. I'm happy for America. We made the right choice.
But, still... I'm sad.
It bothers me that John McCain was hung out to dry by the party he has served so well for so many years.
John McCain would have made a good president... had he been elected in 2000. A strong man with a solid reputation for holding his ground, McCain would never have blundered his way into Iraq without a clear plan and a real exit strategy. McCain would not likely have been viewed as weak, indecisive, or ignorant of the facts... unlike the man who defeated him in 2000.
Yet, the powers-that-be rejected John McCain in 2000.
But why did they select him this time?
Clearly, the Republican party knew it had an uphill battle to hold on to the White House. After the past eight years, the party brand has been damaged... almost to the point of no return.
Then... hope appeared. There was a chance. If only the Democrats would nominate a certain... woman.
The Republicans were sure they could defeat Hillary Clinton. She has been a primary target of right-wing talk radio, evangelical church leaders, and high-profile Republicans for over sixteen years. The GOP was ready to run an all-out, enthusiastic campaign against Clinton.
But, after putting all their eggs in the 'Beat Clinton' basket... something unexpected happened.
Barack Obama became a challenger... then a formidable contender... and, finally, the clear choice of the Democrats.
Suddenly, Republican hopes were dashed. They knew they couldn't run the same campaign against Obama that they had mapped out for so long. Clinton was their expected opponent.
The only choice left: avoid choosing a candidate that has possibilities for the long-term... someone who could run in '12 or '16.
That's why McCain started receiving support... and votes... and became the nominee for the top of the ticket. The party knew that this year would be McCain's last chance to run for the office, so -- like Bob Dole in 1996 -- McCain was handed the reins. But only occasionally.
Republican leaders didn't want McCain to run with someone who could eventually lead the party. The VP selection on a losing campaign isn't generally seen as a likely strong choice for the future. Just ask Walter Mondale, Hubert Humphrey, Dan Quayle, John Edwards, or Jack Kemp. So McCain couldn't choose someone with solid potential, like Romney, Ridge, or Crist.
Instead, McCain was guided towards Palin.
Now and forever, John McCain will be questioned about that pick. How could he allow himself to be bullied into such a choice... a running mate who was nothing less than a laughingstock and a diva?
In addition to his inability to express clear, thoughtful ideas about the disasterous economic woes... McCain's executive decision-making abilities became suspect. If he could choose Palin -- someone who makes Dan Quayle look presidential by comparison -- how would he lead the nation?
But... in the end, an Obama victory was destined. Not only because he was the better choice... but because Americans decided they needed to quickly move away from the Bush Administration.
John McCain conceded the race at 11pm EST on November 4, 2008... but he knew long before then that victory was not to be his. I applaud John McCain for his gracious, heartfelt remarks:
I urge all Americans who supported me to join me in not just congratulating him, but offering our next president our good will and earnest effort to find ways to come together, to find the necessary compromises, to bridge our differences, and help restore our prosperity, defend our security in a dangerous world, and leave our children and grandchildren a stronger, better country than we inherited.
Whatever our differences, we are fellow Americans. And please believe me when I say no association has ever meant more to me than that.
It is natural tonight to feel some disappointment, but tomorrow we must move beyond it and work together to get our country moving again. Source.
So, I'm happy for Barack Obama.
I'm happy for America.
But I feel sad for John McCain. I truly wish him well.
McCain was too old to stand the vigors & stress of the top job in the country. Time for new fresh ideas to unite and inspire us. The negativity & Palin worked against his winning. Nothing can be worst than the last 8yrs but Obama brings us hope again!!!
Last night, I watched John McCain put on the best and worthy speech since the beginning of the presidential race. I firmly believe there was a congruency between his sincere speech and his character. I commend him for his efforts in this race against such an outspoken and wonderful leader, Barack Obama. I'm happy for all of my fellow Americans because I think we have come a long way and the journey continues...
McCain was gracious and sincere. I voted for McCain, and last night was the first time in a long time that he looked relaxed and, well he looked like the John McCain of old. No stuttering last night, no slips of the tongue, the words flowed from his heart. Sad to see you go Senator McCain.
Well said needsearplugs! AND the dems are considering MORE stimulus money! This whole mess is the fault of EVERYONE - democrats and republicans! They all had a hand in it and all took "donations" from the greedy bankers. Quit blaming the Bush administration - this economy was growing until the last quarter - the first quarter of loss of growth. Who was in charge of the senate and congress the last two years? They are all a bunch of crooks. And quit blaming Palin for McCain's loss. How about all the voters being registered by ACORN - being from the state of Ohio, I was disgusted by the registration fraud going on here. They were paying people with cigarettes and whatever else to register AND vote the same day - and told to vote for Obama! I am totally frustrated with the lack of ethics used during this campaign! There is nothing worse than a poor loser - except a poor winner! The Obama supporters should be happy - quit spewing your hatred of McCain and Palin and republicans. The media did enough of that!!! McCain gave five years of his life for this country - he deserved to win, but his campaign managers were awful!
Pammarie55
"McCain gave five years of his life for this country - he deserved to win". Well said and I agree. That fact alone stands up against anything anyone can SAY! Words do not speak but actions do!"
I am tired of the Bush bashing. President Bush did not put us where we are today. The President does not make the laws or even start bills that become laws. You Democrats had the power and the Democrats did what they wanted not for the good of the people of the United States but for their own agendas.
I live in Michigan and we have had a Democrat for Governor now for 6 years. Michigan has been bleeding jobs here, where were the Democrats? Now I can only see the same with Obama, more bleeding and more taxing. If you are one of the lucky ones to still have a job hold on to it. The Democrats are going to tax us and the companies we work for just so they can share the wealth with the people who do no want to work honestly. I believe that you earn what you work for. It is not yours to take. I can see Michigan back to being a WELFARE state again. The hard workers working to try to get somewhere in life and the Democrats wanting us to give what we have worked hard for the the lazy people who think they deserve what the hard worker had just because they want it. That is not what our country was built on. That is why people from other countries come to our great nation because of the opportunity, but the Democrats keep taking it away from the hard workers. If we did not have people with money owning businesses, we would not have jobs. With no jobs, no tax money and no need for government.
And yes I believe that there was a large turnout just because Obama is black. Most black people do not vote because there has never been a black candidate. I feel the black population only saw that Obama was black and they wanted to show the rest of us they could get a black man into office. If Obama had the experience, which he does not, I probably would have voted for him. When I vote, I vote who has the qualifications to do the job. McCain has those qualifications and now we have an unqualified President getting ready to go into office in Jan. May GOD be with us hard working people because we are going to be in for a fight to hold on to the jobs we have and the money we make.
John McCain lost the election, in part because he lost his integrity by pretending to be someone he wasn't. He went with the Christian right. He used his running mate to lie and attempt to tear down an incredibly talented and bright man who possesses true integrity. Obama, however ran his campaign as Jesus would have by "turning the other cheek" and by showing compassion toward Americans from all walks of life. He is a true Christian. He doesn't just "talk the talk" he "walks the walk."
Congratulations, President Elect Obama! I am so ecstatic that you won. I am still crying tears of joy.
If he "talks the talk" and "walks the walk" why did he vote for innocent babies to be murdered through aboration? The Bible says "thou shalt not kill."
Obama voted for a woman's right to choice. He supported programs that would prevent unwanted pregnancies. He does not like abortion any more than the rest of us. But as Americans, we should not be told what to do with our own bodies by our government.
Obama is nothing more than a rebound president. The left wing nut jobs and the kool-aid drinkers don't want a Republican because that's what Bush is. They will get what they voted for and unfortunately so will the rest of us.
I am very proud to say that I fully supported McCain. He is a man who served over 5 years as a POW so we can have the rights that we do. McCain is a great man and he is the one who deserved to win the presidential election.
very good very good
I appreciate John McCain's sacrifice as a POW for our nation. But the Vietnam war was no more about our freedoms then this futile effort in Iraq. In fact if you would look around, you would see that we are losing freedoms in the US and sliding toward facisim while we espouse to be spreading Democracy in Iraq. Looks like you drank the Kool Aid Sal1ztm.
Can't remember where I read it (CNN maybe?), but there was an article with a quote from some think tank wonk that the next President (this was before Tuesday) might have only a 50 percent chance of being re-elected.
So, you might have a valid point about a rebound.
Time will tell.
Yea well, he didnt win, so suck it up loser..The right man won.
To Sal1ztm, what exactly does that mean "he was a POW so that we could have the rights that we do", when exactly was Vietnam ever threatening our rights as Americans?????? I have the upmost respect for the man, but let's truly put it in perspective. It was one of many wars that our leaders got us into because we have to have our nose in everything. That war WAS NOT supported, just like the Iraq war is losing support now (and, NO, Iraq wasn't threatening our freedom either---time and time again it has been shown that Bin Laden and the Taliban are in Afganistan. . . so please tell me why are we wasting our time and lives in this war again????) Apparently you must be one of those people that really think that Bush was a great leader and made all the right calls.
I am a REPUBLICAN, A WOMAN, and A CATHOLIC that voted Democrat for the first time in my life because, in addition to everything else, I AM INTELLIGENT and the Republican ticket (and most of the supporters of it) insulted that part of me the most.
"I am a REPUBLICAN, A WOMAN, and A CATHOLIC" Does that make you smarter than the rest of us? I too am a REPUBLICAN, A WOMAN, and A CATHOLIC and I would never vote for Obama. The man has never done anything except press the present button 120 times. Well.....he did spruce up a park to so desperately needed it but past that he's coasted making empty promises. Really, TELL ME ONE PIECE OF LEGISLATION OBAMA HAS PUSHED THRU THE SENATE! I expect to hear crickets here because he hasn't done squat!!!!!
Our soldiers fight for our freedoms. Remember why we invaded Iraq in the first place? It was because terrorists came on US soil and attacked us. If you think we won't lose any of our freedoms under the Obama administration you are sadly mistaken.
And to the people who say "Finally proud to be an American" I just have one thing to say "IF YOU DON'T LIKE AMERICA, THEN GET OUT" No one is forcing you to stay here and if you think any other country is as great or better than ours then by all means feel free to leave anytime!
Sorry , but you forget: Obama never could have been elected if not for the Independents, and yes, REPUBLICANs who voted for him!
All you Obama-bashers need to wake up and smell that delicious Kenyan blend coffee!!! America no longer belongs to backwards, racist, hicks like you.
America chose Obama, and chose him decisively. All your whining is just sour grapes...
Besides: have you not seen the bickering and blatant antagonism between the McCain and Palin camps?! The McCain campaign was an ill-run, ill-conceived mess, ostensibly "controlled" BY McCAIN!!! If he is such a strong statesman as you would like to suggest: why was he FORCED to pick Palin? Just two days before the announcement of the Palin pick, McCain was still saying he wanted Lieberman as his VP-nominee!
The man is weak and reckless when it comes to leadership ("mavericks" never make good leaders), and couldn't even run his own campaign effectively.
We are all much better off with Obama, who has shown the personal restraint, calm leadership, good judgment, and effective decision-making that we need in a President. He was clearly the best choice.
Don't worry, we won't expect you to be "grateful" when Obama cleans up the mess created by your boy, George Bush. Just sit there in your mental cage of petty rage for the next four years, and maybe we'll let you come out and vote in 2012.
Great post SnotRagDave
I actually voted for McCain in 2000. There were very few times I recognized him since 2004. You're doing a great job keeping the post on track. Keep it up.
To the happy, as yet to learn, democrats. During the nexr four years my grandchildrens inheritance will dwindle considerably.
Some of my rights will be taken away and laws will change.
Perhaps even my right to bear arms will be swept away with all kinds of explainations and promises of a safer America.
Here is my promise to you. Should you choose to come onto my property with your satanistic ideas and concessions...I will be waiting for you with baseball bat in hand..unless of course that too has been outlawed, at which time I will simply squeeze the life out of you with my bare hands for threatening my childrens future...and of course for trespassing with intent to do harm!
Nice. Another wonderful example of humanity and christianity.
Kelly, such fear! Such hatred! You should be mightily ashamed to call yourself Christian. I will pray for your healing.
Kelly darling, your grandchildren's inheritance is GONE---Bush made sure of that. But gosh darn it, he made darn sure you had that there gun of yours. You seem to think it'll take 4 years to loose everything, have you not watched the news for say---THE PAST MONTH!!! Haven't you checked your on-line account lately? Or are you as illiterate about those new-fangled contraptions as McCain was????
rights taken away? inheritances taken away? Wow, I remember when it was flouride in the water and communists under the bed.
And why, exactly, would ANYONE want to come to your property? Domestic terror cell? Militia meeting place? Funny how I suspect most survivalists are nazis or republicans....they just can't sleep well if they have nothing to fear.
Not surprisingly, you're a delusional liberal on drugs with a distorted view of reality. John McCain won the primary because he was the most experienced candidate. There was no overall strategy of the party to select him. And the party had little, if anything, to do with his choice of Palin. You are speaking in total ignorance, projecting the political engineering of the Donkey Party to your opponents. There is a reason we don't call you the "Democratic" Party.
Palin was NOT an albatross around the neck of McCain, no matter how much you choose to hate her. Exit polls demonstrate that among those for whom the VP pick was important, McCain performed better than he did among the general electorate. This means that Palin was a positive contributor to McCain's results - it just wasn't enough.
McCain blew the election by wasting an entire month while Hillary and Obama duked it out. The Republicans blew the entire summer not registering enough voters. McCain refused to attack Obama early and focus on the economy later. He responded weakly to the scurrilous attacks on Palin by the media.
Barack Obama is a laughingstock and a diva. He's not a president, but he plays one on TV. His image is a thin veneer of respectability and competence covering his truly disgusting and ambling nature.
Ayers and Wright were June issues. "Drill Baby Drill" was a July issue. Obama ran against Bush, and McCain SHOULD have ran against Congress and against Obama's Supreme Court picks. McCain should have placed blame for the housing crisis squarely where it belongs: Bill Clinton, the democrats running Fannie Mae, Barney Frank, et al.
The bottom line is that McCain blew this campaign and he correctly took responsibility for it. Character is what matters most for a president and, as you say, McCain deserved the job more than Bush (and Obama), but he simply didn't have the chops to BECOME president - he proved this twice.
And yeah, you are a bunch of Flavor Aid drinkers. Seeing the creepy Obama posters floating through the crowd in Chicago and on the buttons of thousands of people in San Francisco reminds me of nothing less than a leftist cult of personality a la Cuba, North Korea, or East Germany - and it was the Hillary supporters who were the first to recognize that.
There's no way that Obama can live up to all the expectations he's created, which is why he has already begun ratcheting down those expectations (lowering the bar). In three years we're going to remind every "swing" voter of every broken Obama promise.
I'll bet you can't even remember most of them because the Flavor Aid has already begun to take effect.
You so eloquently stated the absolute truth...why can't you run for president! Who ever you are, you rock!
Whoever you are...you rock!
could not agree with you more. we are in for a long ride especially with pelosi, reid and the likes. ready for the USSA
WE happy liberals are jussssst sooooo happy that You arre UNhappy. That's how we really know we won! It's like seeing the faces of all the campus-greeks in either "Animal House" or "Revenge of the Nerds" as their ante-bellum society collapsed. It's funny and heart-warming.
LIVE! FROM EARTH- it's Saturday Night Live- ya betcha!
Gracious post Snotrag!
I believe that John McCain was thrown under the bus a long time ago by his "party". The GOP treated him horribly in 2000, and did not show the sincere support Senator McCain should have received as their party's candidate in 2008.
I also believe that many republicans supported the John McCain of 2000, and were disappointed by the John McCain of 2008. I don't believe that the 2008 John McCain is entirely at fault for the way his campaign was run, because he really didn't have the support he deserved. The uglier his campaign got, the more republicans jumped ship. He was left flailing around, trying to reign in his running mate, and keep his campaign as dignified as he could under the circumstances. He was duped by his backers that he had a shot, when in reality, they never had his back. The republican loss was the fault of many in their party, and not the sole responsibility of Senator McCain.
Although, I have never supported Senator McCain, I do acknowledge that he indeed served his country. He held on to the end, and for a man his age, I have to say I am impressed.
Here's wishing many happy years for John McCain. He's worked hard, fought against many obstacles and did the best job he could.
First of all, the first recession during the Bush Administration began in the FIRST three months of his presidency (the growth began slowing in previous quarters). That is most certainly the Clinton Recession. You apparently know nothing about macroeconomic policy lags.
Second, this recession was caused by the housing bubble which was caused by Clinton's national housing policy. Under that policy, he created the "easy-pay" subprime products and the securitization instruments. Fannie Mae, which bought up loans as fast as they could and then securitized them into financial markets, was run by two successive Clinton suckups: Jim Johnson and Franklin Delano Raines. A third Clinton suckup, Jamie Gorelick, was the deputy chairman. It was THEY who presided over the massive accounting scandal in Fannie Mae which was hiding the feeding frenzy of subprime loans.
The budget surplus was already disappearing when Bush took office due to backloaded spending by Clinton and the recession that his policies caused. Bush had to repair a military that Clinton had decimated every year for eight consecutive years.
No, there were two CLINTON recessions we've had in the past eight years.
LOL... Luckily the great flood happened before Clinton was elected, else you'd blame THAT on him, too!
Hussein Obama Bin Laden wins, America loses. Reagan was an actor that made a great president, Obama is a politician that made a great actor. He is all for himself. The woman who said she has never been so happy, now she won't have to worry about filling up her car, or paying her house payment sums it up for all you who expect hand outs.
I know right!? I do not beleive in handouts to healthy people that are capable of work. And I am not some spoiled selfish little rich girl that doesn't know any better either. I have been working since I was 15. I had a child at 18years old and has raised her 100% on my own. (And might I add that she was Sarah Palin for Halloween on her own free will) I never got on any kind of "free health care plan" nor did I get on any type of government support either. My parents supported me emotionally but I refused to take financial help from them either. And those of you who do expect hand outs are never gonna believe how I did it. I WORKED MY @$$ OFF. I had three jobs at one time and finally after 6 years I have progressed in the company I work for now and make a great living and just bought a brand new house. Little did i know there was a president to come into play right when I become financially sound that wants to give my money to people that are too lazy and dont uderstand that life is hard and you do have to try and you do have to make HUGE sacrafices to advance in life. So comming from someone that has been in the situation where handouts were very tempting I can honestly say I am a true republican on that issue!
I coulnt agree more ray
I agree with on handouts. I rather work for I what I get instead of someone giving something for nothing but this country will pay dearly for this decision.
Quote::::Hussein Obama Bin Laden wins, America loses. Reagan was an actor that made a great president, Obama is a politician that made a great actor. He is all for himself. Are you serious or just jealous that a black man has made an historic victory? Sounds like you are one of those racial peeps and need to back to your closet and stay there until someone wants to hear your BS, and that goes for anyone who is against Obama. He has made a miracle come true for millions and millions black people and others. I do believe he will have a task and a half to get this country back on its feet, and with the help of all americans it will happen. It wont happen over night, its probably won;t happen in the next 4 years, but Obama will have this country on the right path towards the Better and more proud America. Just you wait and see. He will prove all you haters wrong, and i myself cant wait for that day to happen, Maybe it will shut your mouths and start thinking and acting like a true american.
watever, the OP wrote nothing about race. Nothing in the post even indicates race. The first comment to touch on race here is yours.
Please tell me, if expressing one's opinion is not thinking and acting like a true american then what is? Falling in lock step with someone whose politics one disagrees with just to, what? avoid being called a racist? Because someone who lacks any understanding of what this country stands for tells them to?
Having a different opinion doesn't make a person a "hater". Millions of people had different opinions than Bush. That doesn't make them "haters". It makes them Americans with their own opinions.
And yes, you do not understand what this country stands for. You clearly do not understand the concept of free speech or freedom of association. Go study the Constitution. You will learn something.
Just keep in mind that millions and millions of other Americans did not vote for Obama (no they did not all vote for Mccain either). In fact, 48 percent of voters did not vote for Obama. Hardly a landslide. Depending on what Obama does, some will come to support him. Others will never support him, regardless of what he does. That is their right.
Grow up and get over yourself. And start thinking and acting like a true American before you go off preaching to others.
Obviously, i share the same oppinion as many many others on here, all i see from you is downing Obama..so take a hike. I know about freedom of speach, but boy how far do you take it?. And let me see, yea when i see negative chat about Obama, one has to think, are they racist or just blundering idiots?? Which one do you fall into? And you grow up and get over yourself lady, you yourself have alot to learn about life and people. I think and speak like a total true american "GO OBAMA"....
"who said anything about race?" It's not because of his skin color.... blah blah blah-
I'd spent quite a few years as a private-duty nurse for the very wealthy; standing, invisible, behind them at dinner parties, at their country clubs, in their board rooms. I was the fly on the wall.. I know very well all the euphemisms, code words, and knowing glances that they exchange, that they employ to cloak the ignorant, condescending bigotry they feel in a veneer of "right-minded- like-minded" solidarity. It's, at best, ingenuous to pretend this does not permeate the conservative establishment.
About that dividend from Alaska's Permanent Fund: it began LONG before Sarah Palin took office. The dividend was increased under Palin because the rules of the fund required that the dividend be recalculated every few years and sky-high oil prices increased it.
Palin did not "buy" her popularity with oil dividends. Try actually learning about things before you comment on them. Reading...it's fundamental.
Finally, a post that explains the reasons why the first team pulled out early and left the republican's most hated member to swing in the breeze. I would have to add a bit of history however. The republicans wrecked the economy in their abortive years of Reagan and Bush. They then turned the reins over to Clinton who had to make all of the tough decisions and cutbacks to get us out of the hole that Uncle Ronnie and Daddy Bush sank us into. But they got to sit on the sidelines and snipe at the Dems in the White House for eight years. Clinton left us with 6 straight years of growth and money in the bank after being handed a busted economy in '92. The Retardicans pillaged the treasury even further this time spending money like a drunken sailor and they know that it is going to be painful to climb back out. They will sit once again and foul-mouth the democratic White House and Congress that tries to pay their tab for the last eight years. They will squeal like banshees when we pull out of a quagmire in Iraq and mourn the lack of backbone to persist in an abortion created by the neocons that costs the taxpayers 2 billion a week. They certainly didn't want to be the ones to tighten the belts and cut back on the catered meals at the Treasury for their buddies so they ran a senile old man and his harpee running mate that had so many skeletons and such a radical mouth that there was no way to win. I hate that John got trashed the way he did but he was stupid enough to hire the same vermin that accused him of fathering a black baby back in 2000 and thought they would actually help him. I hope it comes out who exactly first recommended Palin to McCain. In the words of the Godfather, " Remember, who ever comes to you with this deal is the Traitor."

it is my understanding that congress (made up of both parties) votes on how the taxpayers money will be spent and what economic policies are brought up. The president can have them brought forth but he still has to go through them. So when we have econ. issues maybe BOTH sides have something to do with it
In terms of the economy, many of these "issues" would never pop up in the first place if government would just get out of the way.
Senator John McCain lost because Senator Barack Obama defeated him. Regardless of what you want to believe, John McCain did not lose because of some "flaw" in his campaign, or his character, or his decision making ability, he lost because Barack Obama took all the dirty crap, lies, and misleading or negative ads, that the McCain/Palin "partnership" threw at him and held steady to his campaign plan. Please note if Barack Obama/Joe Biden had run just as stupid a campaign as John McCain, the election may have had different outcome. Simply stated, John McCain lost because the better man won. It appears that John McCain has most graciously accepted that fact, why can you people do the same?
I was sad that John McCain lost. and Sad that Obama won .
during the primary Obama made a statement back in may of 2007 that turn me off. i saw him at that moment that he was an elitist, a" music man", all show. Obama only had 132 days in the US Senate and year and half in the state. no true experience for the job level that he was trying to be hired for. (voted) he charmed the media, he charmed the contributors how ever small they were. Obama had a money machine and he used it to his full advantage. Obama did demostrated to me that he is a strategist. That being the only good quality for his new job position. As a democrat who wanted the public funding for political campaigns so the rich and poor candidates will have a level playing field. As well as demostrate that they could win with in a budget. I feel Obama and his team through that into the faces of Democrat. I showed me that Obama and his team can not work within a limited budget. I also feel that that the 40 million dollar informicals that he and team was a pay back to the network media for "being so kind"to him.
John McCain did not have the backing of his own party. His ride to the nomination of presidency of his party was only due to the registered republicans who voted for him in the primary. The Republican Party had to hear what the people wanted. John McCain fought a long hard race. He is a tentacious, persistant and envolutionist. This man should had his party nomination in 2000 he fought for his party nomination in 2008. I salute John McCain for being the embodiment of a true American.
But the election is over Barack Obama has won the electriol votes. But do you see. Do you really see that yes Barack Obama is the nominated future President of the United States. Look carefully to each state see the difference in margins. Few state had a large gap. Alot more had gap of 3% to 9%. As a nation we are still divided.
Barack Obama will need to bind our differences and create a one America. Where the message of American is the same for all. A rally cry. A statement that is true, gives us hope and something to believe that it is possible.
So I mourn John McCains lost today.
Tomorrow I salute Barack Obama nominated President of the United States. I pray that he is as an American as John McCain in his duties. I pray that Barack Obama is just as tenacious, perisitant and envolutionist as I see America being, has been and will be.
thank you for my say
I was sad that John McCain lost. and Sad that Obama won .

I was sad that John McCain lost. and Sad that Obama won .
during the primary Obama made a statement back in may of 2007 that turn me off. i saw him at that moment that he was an elitist, a" music man", all show. As well as demostrate that they could win with in a budget. st louis actor - I believe your comment is probably one of the best I have read.....people should learn from that because that would be the AMERICAN thing to do.
I voted for McCain and I am disappointed he lost and the way he was treated but that is now the past. Obama is the new President and deserves the opportunity to show what he is made of......
Sometimes it is truly unfortunate that it takes a disaster of tremendous magnitude to bring people together....I only know of one time where we stood as one...that was on 9/11..........living change and saying change are quite different...........
Now is not the time for OJT and/or showing what one is made of. McCain wouldn't have had to have shownus - we already knew what he was made of. He'd already proven himself. Unfortunately Obama targeted many uneducated young voters who didn't have a clue as to who or what they were truly voting for.
Obama does not have experience and is not the right person to lead this country out of the mess that Dubya has created. When Obama fails miserably, he is going to blame it on the mess that Dubya created. He is not going to be able to live up to all of those false promises he made to get into office. Maybe those uneducated voters will begin to understand that once their jobs start going away.
Seems also that people forget that anti-American comment his wife made on national television when he accepted the Dem nomination "For the first time in my adult life, I am proud of my country." What kind of garbage is that? I guess all the anti-America hate messages that Obama's preacher spewed for years sucked in Michelle as well? How can you be a first lady and not have been proud of your county all your adult life? Only proud of it because your husband was nominated?
I'm telling you, we are in for big trouble for the next 4 years!
You sound very paranoid. You are repeating the same rhetoric that cost McCain the election. Things couldn't get any worse than they are now. Try and support your new commander-in-chief. If you feel nervous, just pray for him instead.
Jade: Yes they could get worse.
2 examples:
The Civil War.
The Great Depression (and no we are not in a depression)
Oh wait I thought of one more.
President Jimmy Carter
Since Barack Obama won the 2008 Presidential Election last night in a decisive and spectacular fashion, Fox News Network has seemingly been taking too many commercial breaks. Sean Hannity who “authored the script of shame” that culminated in the resounding defeat and rejection of the Republicans, with the collaboration of his cohort Dick Morris has so far been very scarce. Sean where are you?

WOW! Check out the market!
What a day following the elections. How’s this for a market indicator of the new prezzie! It’s s u p p o s e to be a rally which means economic confidence on Wall Street.
Looking mighty red out there…I smell blood on Wall Street. On omen? Corporations looking at their own death via taxes?
What the hell, who needs all those corporations, jobs they give and taxes they supply. LET THEM EAT CAKE!!!
and its Thursday and again check out the markets! Apparently they don't like what they see
Yeah, it's really and indictment of Obama. I mean, afterall, the stock market was doing so well before he was elected.
The business & market news are a fine place to start. But putting your finger up in the air for the weather report is a little more involved. Look at an industry in particular (say the two that are tanking us now) and pull the prospectus on the top five. Yeah, I don’t like it either, those 300+ and 600+ pages are more than any human being should have to wade through. But it’s necessary to see what has happened and what is going to happen. Obummer is clueless. He’s a lawyer, not a market analyst.
To explain those reports and their impacts would be way too involved for a blog. A downed market is what the world can’t handle in this economic era of contagion. The market would give a breather or at least a pause after our election. Nope, not in this case. Red, red and more red. It has a mind of its own and it is going to continue to head south. It WONT listen to Obummer, let alone acknowledge he’s there, it has its own identity. That is how bad this omen is. Two red days in a row, following the election.
This giant of a market spits and sputters green indicators and signals trying to revive itself and stand up. Everybody was fine while the contango was going on, and they even banked on it. Profits were screaming everywhere for the government and their greed to play god has cost us more than a little finger in a dyke. The damn is blowing and they helped put the biggest hole in it. Now Reality shows up, smacks everybody in the face and says, “you were warned several times not to do this, now take your pain.” They tanked the housing market and don’t want to look like the failures they are. The market is not going to play the game. You don’t screw with the wiring of financial and accounting principals. It will have its revenge and tie you up in the mess you created. Folks, here you have it, our illustrious credit crises by those who wanted to play god and they’re burning down their own garden of Eden. How stupid.
I’m sick and tired of hearing, “we’ve become so much more educated than we were”, “we’ve come a long way with technology and we know so much now”. If these people were so damn smart, why the hell couldn’t they figure out this would happen, when told about it as well!!! Wise guys and smart arssesses, that’s all.
Thanks for that thought, Dave, I feel the same way. Though an Obama supporter, I'm sad for such an ignominous end to McCain's rise -- he should have been the Republican nominee in 2000.
I'm of the opinion that John McCain could have won this election if he had only abandoned Karl Rove's right-wing political spin machine. Americans are sick and tired of politicians making wild accusations of their opponents, attempting to destroy their public image and private lives, by splicing audio/video footage and repeating parts of speeches which are clearly out of context.
I think McCain will realize in retrospect that had he run as the man he is, a war-hero and moderate who cares about every American and their future, he would have won the election. By smearing Barack Obama at every turn, by constantly drudging up fake stories and overemphasizing past relationships which were minor at best, the McCain campaign shot itself in the foot. I was disgusted to see a good man support such mean-spirited and disingenuous commercials, no doubt he was egged on by his GOP campaign managers.
If the GOP makes the mistake of blaming John McCain for losing the election, instead of blaming the way in which the campaign was run, then a third American political party may soon replace the Republican Party. If the smear campaign returns in 2012, and Obama's first term has produced good results for our country, then Obama will earn a second term. I think that probably scares them more than anything, anything except some big "what if?" questions.
What if Barack Obama succeeds despite the GOP predicting his imminent failure?
What if Barack Obama does so good that in 2016, a Hispanic woman runs for president?
What if the days of the rich old white guy always running the show are over?
What if the American people wake up one day and realize that the religious right is neither religious nor right?
What if...?
compilation,
Are you aware that your so called prediction is already in the making? Guess what? Obama is not in the White House yet!
