The level of immaturity displayed by some posters never ceases to amaze me.

I fully expect to be ruthlessly and relentlessly attacked by these fools as a result of this article.

To them I say, "Bring it on!"

Recently, I have been attacked by 'members' (more on the plural later) who appear to be newbies. However, I suspect that 'they' are the work of established Newsvine users.

These 'members' are -- in my opinion -- a singular user posting under numerous screen names. 'Their' posts generally appear in the same articles, have a similar tone, and often one such name posts in agreement with or in defense of another.

One such screen name was created in a malicious attempt to attack the memory of my late brother... while another -- which sent me a 'friend request' -- was created under a name very similar to one of my 'Vine friends, but posted with a decided vicious comment, again attacking my brother's memory.

Is that how you get your thrills, Troll?

Does your black heart conjure up such vile remarks just to give you a hard-on?

Well, fine... do your worst.

I'm better than you.

My friends are better than you.

Newsvine is better than you.

As for me... I will continue commenting, seeding, and posting articles here on Newsvine. If you don't like what I write, feel free to ignore me.

I don't give a flying @!$%#.

But, know this:

I will delete every one of your posts from here on for even the slightest hint of a Code violation.

I will report every one of your posts as 'no value' or 'inflammatory'.

I will forward each one of your screen names to my friends list.

And I will enjoy every minute of it.

Enjoy feeding now, Troll. I'm putting you on a hunger strike.

UPDATE: If you receive any emails from suspected trolls, do not respond. That will just give the troll your email address... something they can't get by clicking on "Contact This Author" on Newsvine.

Good Lord! Just when you think you've seen the bottom of the barrel, the level gets lower. That's way into unconscionable. Way beyond the Koolaid stuff and partisan nonsense. Yeah, SND, I think you have every right to go to serious battle over this!

Dave,

I just read your article about your brother and it touched me to the core of my being. I am an identical twin and have such a tight, close bond with my brother that I honestly would not know what to do if he should ever pass and I'm 42. All that I know is that family is to be loved and revered and remembered. Over the course of my NV career I am sure we have had a few spats and I might have said a few things that were stupid or unthoughtful, for that I am sorry. I believe so strongly in the conservative philosophy that I sometimes say things that are flippant, for that I am sorry as well.

PS I am sure that your brother would have made a fantastic father and uncle. God Bless.

P.D.:

Over the course of my NV career I am sure we have had a few spats and I might have said a few things that were stupid or unthoughtful, for that I am sorry.

Eh, like water off a duck's back. I'm equally to blame.

I believe so strongly in the conservative philosophy that I sometimes say things that are flippant, for that I am sorry as well.

Never apologize for your convictions, unless they happened in court. ;-)

Dave you have made a good decision in inviting PD as your friend. I just did the other day and we agreed to disagree. he is one of the best from the "opposing views". I enjoy and respect his opinion. Do not feed the trolls, starve them to death. I too am guilty of being a troll on occasions, but I do not know if troll is the right answer. I respond to the other as they respond to me. Treat me like a human and you will receive the same from me. I did not read your article about your brother but from what I gather I went thru the same thing as my brother and I were very tight and rarely had to speak because we already knew what the other was thinking. We were involved in racing cars and communication was essential, you do not have to talk to communicate. He also passed, 32 years ago. Miss him everyday.

Peace Brother! :)

I want to propose a game--instead of the Whack-A-Mole game at local fairs, I propose we gather the NV trolls and call it Whack-A-Troll.

How about it? We can find a fair going every single day of the year, I'm sure of it--and we could make some serious money while being the equivalent of traveling gypsies... :D

Thanks, that's nice to hear. Discouraging to find a great article, seed it, and see it covered with trollcrap rather than intelligent, rational discussion.

On days when I'm disgusted with the entire breed, I actually feel sorry for those who either have nothing in life better to do than to try to ruin somebody else's day, or who are so obviously stumped for a rational point to make on a subject which they feel passionately about that they can do nothing but repeat the same talking points, with no backup, over and over again.

Nah, the bats are more aerodynamic, better speed on the swing. And with old barn boards, you run the risk of shattering... and you don't get that nice "thwock" sound.

Tough call, John... Wood gives you the option of adding the nails Dave seems fond of, but aluminum stands up to the beating better, moves a bit better in the air, and has a bit of ring to the "thwock." Personal preference. (Me, I have both in the house.)

        Gotta be wood... preferably ash.

A nice wood bat is more of an extension of the arm than aluminum... as the reverberations from the contact smoothly transfer throughout the upper body.

Aluminum, along with the annoying sound, has a more foreign, benign feel... without the raw sensation of power that the wood provides.

        ..

        ..

And... there's the whole 'nails' thing...

So it's time to take some action, boys
        It's time to follow me

Through the darkness and the shadows
It's a nightmare but it's one exciting ride
Say a prayer, then we're there
At the drawbridge of a castle
And there's something truly terrible inside
        It's a beast! He's got fangs
        Razor sharp ones!
Massive paws, killer claws for the feast
Hear him roar! See him foam!
But we're not coming home 'til he's dead--
        Good and dead!
        Kill the Beast!

        Dave,

Since meeting you here, and becoming a "friend" of yours I was reading thru your posts as I love your view on topics and your outlook on much of lifes happenings, but could never bring myself to read the story about your brother. The headline veered me away from it and I erred on the side of caution, due to the fact that I just lost my brother recently, very suddenly and equally as unexpectedly. Adding to this was the existing pain of losing my mother only 5 months prior. So I made a conscious effort to avoid the story for those reasons.

However due to this story, I ventured over there and read.

I must say a HUGE Thank You to you and others there. On drying my tears I came to realize that I should have read it earlier instead of avoiding it. You folks helped me realize that there is comfort to be gotten when you realize your not alone in the pain the death of a loved one causes. I have realized that in the 5 month period when I lost my mom and brother, I spent both times flying the three and a half thousand miles back to Scotland, under a great deal of emotional self control. Both times returning to my life here in the states having to remain in emotioal control for the sake of my husband, son, work etc. etc.

Thank You, all of you. I have just cried a great, relieving almost "enjoyable" and releasing cry from your stories.

WOW, my apologies for going off topic...pass me a troll so I can whack him!!!!!!!!!!

Seems on Newsvine, when someone gets a remark they don't like they scream "troll". It gets pretty old, like the boy who cried wolf.

Take it like a man or woman and get it over it. Writing a seed just for this purpose is very childish.

I think in this situation it goes beyond a remark that Dave disagreed with or didn't just like. He never called out the troll by name but wrote an article addressing the problem.

What the person did who crossed the line and spoke ill of Dave's deceased brother was childish...

no: Re #21This article not about ppl who get a remark they don't like. About a very common and persistent problem.

Although you have a right to your opinion so do I. Those who understand this blight on all message boards do not yake issue w/articles such as this such as or take it personally.

I am as much against ppl namecalling using 'troll' when it is not so, as I am the trolls themselves. If this problem were not an issue it would be ignored. It happens to be a huge problem.

NV because of the moderation and longtime members who call these fools on their nasty behavior has less than others but more members who display troll-like bevavior.

If we 'take it like a man or woman' rather than identifying and rejecting this behavior and those who promote it, it is encouraging this behavior.

        Dave,

Wonderful article. Keep up the fight. I find I spend more time than I like clicking "No Value" or "Inflammatory" and like you I've long suspected most of these comments come from a few repeat offenders creating new accounts. I've been reluctant to report them to tyler based on only suspicion, might just change that opinion.

Also, thanks for all the info, now I've got to go clean up my ignore list. Seems I have a few incarnations of banned users in there.

rgdyk must be some sort of super-troll! Who the hell has the time to create that many registrations from different IP's just to harass the crap out of NVers?

Sorry that you are having troll problems :( I hope things are getting better.

The trolls almost had me scared off. Then I decided they aren't worth it. I enjoy NV. It gives me a happy place to relax and release. If someone doesn't like that, too bad!!!!

          Snotrag Dave---

I love the way you write. I catch your stuff here and there. Interesting.

Didn't know you had this dark side when you're pushed. It's awesome.

When you guys are finished, if there's any troll-parts or a barnboard left, can I have wack? I haven't had any serious troll problems on my articles yet, but I'd like to be prepared, ya know?

PS Dave, I tried to post on your article about your brother, but, words are useless sometimes. Sorry.

          Keep up the good fight.

Generally, my dark side is well-contained. Sometimes it must be unleashed.

Desecreation of my loved ones' memories is a sure-fire trigger.

Please don't apologize. Words are just characters on a page; power is in the thought. Your thoughts are enough.

          Question.

Is "SnotRag Dave." (note the period in the screen name) an attack or an experiment.

The id is posting "This article is really, really lame. I'm better than you." over and over.

The interesting thing is that it did it once on July 1 and didn't get noticed and now on the 7th is doing it rather rapidly.
