In the wake of his recent deal to privatize the Pennsylvania Lottery (in effect, outsourcing the state's biggest fundraising asset for senior citizens), Gov. Tom Corbett is about to do the same for alcohol sales.
While Pennsylvania's archaic alcohol sales system does need a re-vamp, just how far is too far?
To the average consumer, increasing the availability of beer and wine in grocery stores makes sense... but doing so will surely cut into the revenues of the state's beer distributors who can only sell their products by the caseload.
Corbett's expected move will help some retailers while hurting others... and no one knows if the consumer will benefit.
